Today we’ll be learning our shell chords on a jazz piano ballad. It also often provides a base to layer other jazz piano textures on top, especially for our left hand. ![]() It can also be used in many styles: swing, jazz ballads, ragtime, bebop, etc. It’s a versatile technique that can be used in both solo piano and for comping with jazz ensembles. Shell chords or chord shells is a great fundamental piano technique for our left-hand accompaniment used since the beginnings of jazz.
